JEDI Education and Community Engagement Intern 

The Jewish Federations of North America is seeking a part-time intern for Fall 2024 who wants to pursue interests in social change, community belonging, and justice and equity with a Jewish lens to ensure flourishing Jewish life and civil society for the 21st century.

 

BACKGROUND

The Jewish Federations of North America (“JFNA”) consist of 146 Jewish Federations and dozens of Network communities which collectively raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually to support flourishing Jewish life and the needs of the Jewish people in their home communities and around the world. The Jewish Federation system, among the top 10 charities on the continent, leads the largest network of volunteer and professional leaders who build and sustain Jewish communities that are healthy, safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive, educated and engaged, involved in the broader community, and deeply connected to Israel and the global Jewish people.   

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The JEDI Education and Community Engagement Intern will work closely with the JEDI team, senior leadership, and community partners across the Jewish communal ecosystem and broader society to support the development and implementation of the day-to-day management of JEDI’s critical ongoing focus areas of education, engagement and empowerment. The JEDI intern will provide insight and opportunities for our organization to discuss, reflect and learn about ways in which we can address Belonging and social inequities in Jewish communal life and broader society.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Partnering with JFNA’s Director of JEDI Education and Community Engagement to build out JEDI resources and education curriculum and programs. 
  • Steward and coordinate the logistics of our JEDI Community Cohorts of Jewish Federations and Community Relations Councils engaged in ongoing JEDI work.
  • Support administrative needs relating to data tracking and highlighting tasks, newsletter production, and identifying challenges and solutions relating to the work.
  • Partnering with JEDI Team and JFNA departments to build out and support networks and opportunities for underrepresented identity groups around the country.

    

The ideal candidate:

  • Strong commitment to ethical practices.
  • Brings relevant experience in institutional change and/or diversity, equity and inclusion work.
  • Has experience in education, teaching pedagogy, and curriculum writing.
  • An understanding of the organized Jewish community, particularly successful strategies for building coalitions and achieving buy-in.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator
  • Strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Passionate, idealistic, mission-driven, and self-directed with integrity.
  • Strong project management and implementation expertise
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Extremely organized with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Has a proven track-record of successful use of a sophisticated approach to social change, Jewish equity, diversity and inclusion, overall project management, and data analysis.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, calm under pressure, confident and collaborative, and thrives in a fluid, fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
