Jewish Federations Proud to Support Jewish Agency Rescue from Ethiopia

Three planes took off from Gondar to Addis Ababa en route to Israel this afternoon, carrying more than 150 passengers including Israeli citizens who had visited the area, The Jewish Agency for Israel staff and participants, and around 50 Ethiopians who are expected to immigrate to Israel soon.

The operation comes as violent clashes arose between the Ethiopian Army and the FANO militia in the Amhara province.

The flights were organized by the Prime Minister's Office in collaboration with The Jewish Agency. The complex rescue efforts from Gondar to Addis Ababa were led by a representative of the Israeli Embassy and Jewish Agency security officers.

Jewish Federations’ are proud that our annual campaigns, including contributions for core, unrestricted funds, enable the Jewish Agency to operate on the ground and respond with expertise in emergencies.  For decades, Jewish Federations have worked side by side with their partner The Jewish Agency for Israel and the Israeli Government to help 100,000 Ethiopian Jews realize their dream of making aliyah and to support their absorption into Israeli society.
