SUMMARY
The Jewish Federation of Greater El Paso is searching for an energetic, passionate professional to assume the position of Program & Engagement Coordinator. This exciting position is responsible for programming various aspects in the Jewish community and community newspaper.
 

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT, FOR THE TIME BEING, THIS JOB MAY BE DONE REMOTELY WITH THE VIEW TO MOVING HERE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THERE IS OPPORTUNITY FOR CAREER GROWTH AND ADVANCEMENT FOR THE RIGHT CANDIDATE.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following, other duties may be assigned.
 

Community-Wide Programs:
Oversee and manage community programs and events such as holiday celebrations, concerts, film festival, speaker series, and meetings.
 

*The Jewish Voice Editor:
Oversee, manage, compile, and edit The Jewish Voice, our community newspaper.
 

Young Family Engagement:
Oversee and manage local PJ Library subscriptions: program implementation, recruitment and marketing
Plan implement and oversee PJ Library programming
Outreach to young families and engage them in the Jewish community
Connect young families to Jewish life in Greater El Paso
 

Young Professional Engagement:
Plan, organize and implement programs for 20s and 30s
Create and execute social and recreational events
Develop and implement a strategy for recruiting constituents to this group
Reach out to attendees – follow up with them after events
Serve as the convener of young adult program professionals working throughout the community – developing a system of collaboration with partners
 

Seniors Engagement:
Plan, organize and implement programs for Seniors
Develop and implement a strategy for recruiting constituents to this group
Reach out to attendees – follow up with them after events
 

Community Collaboration:
Communicate and coordinate with area synagogues and partners to plan joint programs
Promote programs in and around the community.
Be a community leader.
 

Administrative:
Work with Director of Philanthropy to learn about donors and our community and enter data into our database.


The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Take an entrepreneurial approach to creating programs in the community
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners
  • Design and oversee new programming based on community needs
  • Work independently while being a part of a dynamic team of professionals and lay leadership
  • Help develop strong volunteers and leadership from various groups and programs
  • Provide the initiative and support for use of social networking tools with and among the target populations
  • Help to develop, cultivate and manage donors for programming – including looking for additional grants and funding when necessary

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

ATTENDING MEETINGS: Attend and participate in meetings and the various committee meetings as any that would require the Program & Engagement Coordinator’s expertise. Attend all appropriate community-wide events to deepen relationships with the community, where appropriate.
 

PREPARING AND ADMINISTERING BUDGETS: Prepare and maintain the budget of income and expenses, request necessary payments to vendors, for all programs for which the Program & Engagement Coordinator is responsible.
 

COORDINATING PUBLICITY:  ensure that all programs and events are advertised/promoted in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
 

SKILLS/ QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Engaging interpersonal skills
  • Impeccable organization and follow-though
  • Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, the internet, social media, PowerPoint, Constant Contact
  • Commitment to pluralistic Jewish community
  • Knowledge of Jewish lifecycle, calendar, traditions, etc.
  • Experience in project management and teamwork
  • Connection to local Jewish and secular community

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
College and/or business school required
At least 3 years of experience or its equivalent

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to speak and write in grammatically correct English

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be able to do simple math calculations

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED
Computers, fax machines, copy machines and postage machines
 

*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Jewish Voice

  • Coordinate editorial functions for the Federation’s community newspaper
  • Plan editorial content for each issue in collaboration with Executive Director
  • Develop themes for issues
  • Collect information and articles from the El Paso and Las Cruces Jewish community
  • Seek out stories that will be of the most interest to the most Jewish Voice readers
  • Communicate with regular contributors to the Voice and recruit other writersn
  • Ensure that event announcements clearly include name of event, date and time, location, and contact phone number, email address and/or website URL for more information
  • Coordinate editorial review with Executive Director on articles related to the Federation
  • Work closely with graphic designer, beginning with providing finished copy, photos, and rough page layouts through conveying feedback and problem solving for space and readability
  • Coordinate proofreading and corrections cycles
  • Meet press times and mailing due dates to get the paper out by the first of the month

 BASIC SKILLS

  • Mastery of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and proofreading
  • Creative thinking
  • Awareness of print publications: communications goals, design, photography
  • Ability to envision attractive and interesting covers and pages that invite people to read
  • Technical facility/computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Outlook, document sharing application, etc.
  • Ability to write articles of interest to the community and/or delegate assignments to writers
  • Ability to prepare an editorial calendar and meet multiple deadlines for each issue
  • Ability to revise articles from others for coherence, readability, organization, grammar, spelling, etc.
  • Ability to take good quality photographs at events as needed
  • Ability to conduct research as needed
  • Ability to apply consistent editorial style standards (currently a modified Associated Press style)
  • Strong focus on details and organizing stories, photos, and other materials needed for publication
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
