Community and Role Overview:
The Jewish Federation of Fort Worth & Tarrant County has been caring for people in need and inspiring Jewish life since 1936. Today, Fort Worth and Tarrant County is one of the fastest growing areas in the US. Fort Worth is the 13th largest city in the US, representing an opportunity to grow and strengthen the local Jewish community.
 

The 1600 Jewish households in Tarrant County connect to Jewish life through six congregations, a Jewish pre-school, Hillels at TCU and UNT, active chapters of B’nai B’rith, Jewish War Veterans, Hebrew Free Loan, and Hadassah, an active Federation Young Leadership Development Program, and more. Our Federation includes Jewish Family Services, the Jewish Federation Foundation, and a sister city relationship with Akko and the Western Galilee in Israel through Partnership2Gether. It also serves as the central convening body for a diverse Jewish community, coordinating programs and services aimed at ensuring the well-being of all community members.
 

Overall Role Objective:
The Executive Director of the Jewish Federation works with the President, Executive Committee and the Board of Directors to grow and maintain the organization’s vision and values. He/she is responsible for development of effective strategies, implementation of planning efforts, fiscal and staff management, fundraising, board, and community partnerships.
 

Organizational Responsibilities:
Strategy

  • Work with leadership to develop organizational vision, culture, and long-range strategic plan of the organization
  • Implement policy and strategy as determined by the Board of Directors
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board to whom the Executive Director reports, and with staff to ensure open communication and the measurement of goals

Community Relations & Engagement

  • Represent the Jewish Federation locally, nationally, and internationally with government, private organizations, and community and professional leaders to maintain proper relations and promote the good and welfare of the organization
  • Build personal and trusted relationships with donors, volunteer leaders, stakeholders, professionals, key community members, clergy, and civic leaders
  • Develop alliances with Jewish and Non-Jewish community organizations/institutions
  • Promote cooperation and coordination across local Jewish institutions and organizations to reinforce the Federation’s role as the support organization of our community
  • Balance the expectations of multiple constituencies, engaging those constituencies in an effective manner
  • Provide leadership in determining social, cultural, and educational programming needs of the Jewish community; setting clear goals and objectives and measuring success
  • Identify, recruit, and develop volunteer leaders to assure continuity in leadership

Fundraising

  • Set the strategic direction for financial resource development activities, including annual campaign, targeted giving, and planned giving
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with donors, supporters, volunteers, partners, and community, including recognition and appreciation of donors at all levels
  • Identify new donors and funding sources both within and outside the Jewish community and develop strategies to engage them

Marketing & Communications

  • Create/develop comprehensive marketing and communication tools about the Federation’s mission, vision, goals, programs, and services
  • Deploy marketing content to increase visibility and recognition through multiple media mechanisms including (but not limited to): regular email updates (blasts), Facebook status updates, web content, community calendar, and congregation and organization newsletters and webpages

Business Leadership & Management

  • Support, motivate and facilitate the growth and development of staff, setting clear objectives, professional accountability and effective communication
  • Direct reports to the Executive Director include the Jewish Family Services Director, the Federation Associate Director, Executive Assistant and Accountant
  • Create a work environment that fosters communication and teamwork
  •  Meet regularly with the Board and committees to further the work of the organization
  • Manage the activities of the Jewish Federation Foundation

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead the Federation in developing strategies to adapt to an ever-changing philanthropic landscape
  • Significant track record of fundraising success, a proven capacity to build trusting relationships with donors and their families and inspire their Jewish philanthropy
  • Skills to support and manage the work of the Board and committees to ensure good governance and meaningful lay leadership opportunities
  • An understanding of company finances, fiscal oversight, and fiduciary responsibility
  • A strong and persuasive communicator who will serve as a convener and bridge builder to foster community wide dialogue and planning;
  • Experience in balancing the responsibilities of organizational management with the external responsibilities of community development, relationship building, and work with key stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of organizational and political aspects of Jewish life locally, nationally, and internationally and a demonstrated ability to effectively engage and impact those systems and processes
  • The ability to command respect and form relationships throughout our diverse Jewish community
