Communications Manager- Indianapolis

With an Annual Campaign of $3.9 million dollars and Endowment funds of approximately $85 million; the Federation supports and enriches the lives of Jews locally, nationally, in Israel, and around the world. We provide funding to a number of local and regional agencies, many national and overseas partners, and numerous independent programs that provide deeper connection and create Jewish community in Central Indiana. The Federation resides on and manages the operations of a 40-acre campus, and programs funded by the Federation create life-sustaining and life-changing impact, while inspiring and engaging members of the Indianapolis Jewish Community.
The Indianapolis Jewish Community completed its first Jewish Community Study in 2017- the results of this effort have lead us to recently publishing a strategic plan for the Jewish Federation. These two efforts will drive the focus of the Jewish Federation for the next few years.
Position Overview
The Communications Manager supports the mission and strategic plan of the Federation by leading all marketing and communication initiatives to result in broader understanding of the work and impact of the agency.  Initiatives include, but are not limited to, effective use of social media, print communications, direct mail, and other forms of communications.
The Communications Manager will work closely with the Leadership Team of the Federation to ensure a strategic, collaborative, and seamless marketing approach geared toward increased engagement, financial contributions, volunteer support, and general community recognition. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Communications Planning. Develops, implements, and evaluates all marketing campaigns and promotional activities in partnership with the Leadership Team to educate the community about the Federation, its programs, and the agencies; prepares and manages budget for marketing expenditures and establishes marketing goals, strategies and action plans for the organization.
  • Content creation for revenue generation and constituent engagement. Coordinates promotional materials from concept to completion, including a bi-monthly magazine whose content is repurposed across a variety of platforms. Serves as a writing, production, and editing resource for all departments; collaborates with staff in the creation of development, fundraising, and planned giving/endowment materials. Manages the production of videos, brochures, posters, signs, newsletters, building displays, apparel, photography, fliers, advertisements, and additional materials, using Adobe Suite.
  • Internal Consulting. Partners with program staff to recommend individualized strategies to accomplish organization goals.   
  • Media relations. Serves as point of contact for all media and pursues editorial coverage of newsworthy happenings in print and electronic media, including managing contacts with JFNA.  
  • Digital Media. Ensures the Federation’s website is continually updated, email marketing, and social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn; oversees management of departments’ pages on social media.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree; in marketing, communications, or a related area of study preferred
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop communication plans to encourage increased awareness of JFGI, it programs, agencies and mission; experience with Google keywords, Facebook, Instagram ads and website development.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills and demonstrated ability to manage people and projects to meet organizational objectives – an experienced cat-herder. 
  • Proactive and takes initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the production of professional communications materials. Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office is essential. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume project environment with an eye for detail and the ability to think ahead.  
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Strong social media skills
  • Ability to outsource and manage free-lancers
  • Knowledge and understanding of Jewish customs, culture, values, and holidays and passion for creating a stronger Jewish community
  • Experience taking photographs and shooting video
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics are representative of an office setting. The work environment is usually fast-paced with constant stimulation and mobility. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff, volunteers and donors.  Expectations are that the individual will present a professional appearance and behave in a professional manner at all times.  Physical demands are primarily limited to operating general office equipment to include computers, telephones, office equipment, bending, lifting, and on occasion program set up.
